SALMON RIVER, NY

King/Chinook Salmon
This species is located in Pulaski, the Tug Hill Region of New York which is widely known for its’ legendary Salmon run each Fall. Salmon season begins in late August to early September and continues through mid to late October where the Chinook (King) and Coho/Silver Salmon migrate from the depths of Lake Ontario to their spawning grounds along the 12 mile stretch of the Salmon River. The “Mighty King” will average in size from 15-25lbs and some of these brutes can get well into the 30lb class. These “mack trucks” make powerful runs, produce violent head-shakes and test the skills and equipment of even the most seasoned angler. Come experience the epic battles and the exhilarating feeling of landing one of these giants.
Coho/Silver Salmon
Another notable member of the Salmon family, the “Coho” or Silver Salmon is one of the most exciting to fish for and one of my personal favorites; largely because of their vibrant spawning colors, their feisty attitude when hooked, and their willingness to take a fly. These “rockets” ranging in size from 8-12lbs with some well into the teens are aggressive and hard fighting. Known for their acrobatic displays, cartwheels, and blistering runs; they will challenge even the most experienced angler. Pound for pound you can’t beat the fight of the Coho.
Steelheads
Steelhead Trout aka the “Maseratis” of the river are revered amongst anglers for their beautiful dime-bright colors in the fall, to the magnificent spawning colors they portray later in the season. They can be elusive at times and often referred to as the “ghosts of the river”. It will take hard-work and persistence to have one take your fly. These challenges make them a truly prized catch. Known for their spectacular acrobatics and reel-screaming runs; these “speed demons” will put you well into your backing in seconds. Come experience the thrill and beauty when hooking one of these silver ghosts.
Brown Trout
Lake run Brown Trout start to enter the Salmon River mid-October through November as these attractive fish start their spawning cycle. You can find these beauties down-stream actively feeding and gobbling up salmon eggs. These fish average 8-15lbs and are hard fighters; the true bulldogs of the river.
